AUCTION REPRESENTATION~

USA RARE provides client representation at every major currency auction within the united states. For us, client representation is much more than just placing a bid. While it is generally the client who takes the initiative in expressing interest in particular notes, we closely read auction catalogs to identify items that a client may have overlooked or does not necessarily appreciate.

Once the list of potential notes has been determined with the client, we will discuss price parameters and recent market activity. Upon agreeing on a price range, we personally examine the notes prior to the auction and then, generally speaking, confer again with the client as to the actual grade and also any news that may impact the price. For example, personal attendance at an auction by a major player can often tip you off as to how high a note might go. And then, of course, there is the usual pre auction scuttlebutt that occasionally proves quite useful.

We feel there is an art to bidding. We attempt to gauge the mood of the participants and the ebb and flow of the bidding process and take an aggressive position when we feel that is warranted. The right price can be a function of bidding dynamics and, in short, who won or lose what when.
In spite of the growth in auction sales, many of the finer notes continue to be sold behind the scenes through private treaty. Whether through the dealer fraternity or directly from a collector these transactions frequently yield the plums.

Our experience here is extensive. Our client/dealer list of 4500 along with our reputation as a leading buyer and seller has led to scores and scores of unsolicited offerings of outstanding notes. We have purchased privately millions of dollars of currency for both clients and the USA Rare collection.

We enjoy purchasing and selling through private treaty and find it is a function of understanding the motivation of the buyer/seller, establishing trust and rapport, knowing just what the notes are worth, and, when necessary, providing a clear explanation on how we arrived at our offer price.

We feel that our involvement in all areas of US currency has helped us to recognize truly special opportunities. We see this as an important part of our client services and frequently advise clients when we feel a note presents a particularly compelling opportunity. On the other hand, we are not averse to suggesting a client hold back if we feel the item is more common than recognized or simply overpriced. Auction Representation is well available.
